Ask Talking Books: Request Books

How does it work?

Submitting the "Request Books" form on this page sends an email to staff with all of the information you've included. Staff will then go into your account and add your requests to your queue.

• Requests can be made by book number or by title and author.
• The books you requested will go out on your next cartridge. If you've reached your limit of cartridges, you may need to return a cartridge in order to have a new one sent out to you. You can always request an increase in cartridges. Just email us or ask for an increase in your Request Books form.
• The library may not have every title, especially newer releases, which are typically 3-6 months behind print publication.
• You can see which books are available by searching our Online Catalog: https://talkingbooks.slo.oregon.gov/. 

Other ways to request books:

You can call 800-452-0292 (toll-free) to talk with a staff member, or leave a voicemail with information about which books you'd like.

You can e-mail requests to talkingbooks@slo.oregon.gov. Include the name and phone number of the Talking Books patron.

To add books through the library catalog:

If you prefer to add books on your own, you can create a “book basket” and then submit it. You will need to log in to the Online Catalog. Your username for this library catalog is different from your BARD username. If you do not know your username or have forgotten your password, please call or email us.

Books will be added to your patron book queue once you submit your request (the queue is a list of titles you created, or our auto-select service created based on your preferences). These will be sent to you when they reach the top of your book queue. Don’t forget! When you have finished creating your book basket, click on Submit Your Request.

Newsletters and Book Lists

These resources can help you learn about new titles and undiscovered gems. 

• Book Lists are available on the NLS website, they cover many topics and themes and feature links to BARD so you can add them to your Wishlist. You can also request these books using the DB number.
• Talking Book Topics features audio titles recently added to the collection. You can read Talking Book Topics online and you can also download it from BARD or get it on your cartridges.
• Braille Book Review features Braille titles recently added to the collection. You can read Braille Book Review online and you can also download it from BARD.
• International Language Quarterly lists popular international language books recently added to the collection. You can read International Language Quarterly online and access books featured via links to BARD.
• Collections Connections is a new, monthly online newsletter that highlights the entire collection. Books are curated based on different themes, and the newsletter links directly to BARD. You can read the newsletter online or you can subscribe to receive it in your email inbox using the signup box or send your name and email address to the Collection Connections team at connections@loc.gov.
